Nick Smith on ETS in Auckland tonight

Dr Smith will be at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club tonight, speaking on the Emissions Trading Scheme. The meeting begins at 7:30 pm.
I’ll be there. I encourage anyone of a sceptical cast of mind to attend also and together we can put some pointed questions.
Come early, introduce yourself to me (white beard, black jacket). We can support each other and the cause of truth.
The road show here on Tuesday was well attended and a polite reasoned session. The 2 cops in the back of the room after the Gore fiasco might also have moderated things a bit!
The rationale for being in the ETS was effectively the precautionary principle jacked up to cost us $1.5 billion. The evidence was our hockey stick friend with CO2 and temp graphed together. We are in this because we need to be seen to be “doing our bit” and Afghanistan was brought into the argument. He claimed to have never been against the ETS. He could not answer my question on what will happen to investment in forest processing in the face of fluctuating carbon prices. Year to year price swings will affect the harvest decisions of those in the scheme leading to supply drying up when the carbon price is high.
I summary a slick presentation well rehearsed that left me feeling we are in this because Tim Groser thinks it is necessary at the negotiating table rather than because anything we do will have an effect.
We are better off spending this money on Earthquake, Volcano and Asteroid research. Climate MIGHT be a problem but the 3 above WILL mess us up!

Fails to recognise that we humans (from Nanook of the north to the bushman of the Kalahari) occupy pretty much every niche available on this planet and we are damn good at adapting! Setting fire to money under the ETS means we will have to adapt to being poor…

Forgot to mention that Smith was parroting the US congress passing climate legislation.. Todays announcement that the senate bill is dead should be a fatal blow to our scam (oops scheme)…

I have kept a close watch on all the unbelievable twists and turns of the ongoing AGW saga (WUWT, Bishop Hill, Climateaudit etc) and am astounded at the scientific establishment’s politicization and lack of integrity when it comes to climate science. So very contrary to the way science should be practised. Keep it up folks.

How did it go last night?
It went (actually Thursday night) quite well, mostly well-ordered, even without a police presence (!). I estimated the crowd at about 80–90. There were some voluble sceptics but most seemed to accept the need for an ETS or have business interests dependent upon it, such as the bio-fuels industry and marketing horticultural products on the basis of carbon footprints (I talk to people). There were farmers, too, wondering about their liabilities.
As you can see, I’ve posted the first of my accounts and there will be more to come. For now, though, I must get on with some overdue, paying work. Cheers.

It was printed in the leaflet but my copy has vanished.
Or perhaps you can tell me the scale on the left hand side. Is it in degrees or tenths of a degree?

So, a fraction of a degree rise? And that data is fudged to make it look worse.
What the hell is anyone worried about? The world has been coming out of an ice age for centuries. And the places that are said to be warming the fastest are Canada and Siberia.
Where’s the downside?
