Without a debate, the ranks of the faithful will continue to dwindle
Agreed, and the latest thread on Hot Topic seems to confirm this view.
One one on this thread seems able to confront any of Ridley's arguments head on. It's all "denial this, denial that".

Does seem rather like a moribund beast.

On another note, I should add that Dr Richard North (EuRef blogger and part of the Booker/North dynamic duo) has just gone into theatre for open heart surgery.
He reports that he may be on "light blogging duty" until Tuesday.

North was the man who blew apart the "Amazongate" story, amongst many others.

This man is a legend and we all owe him.

It's instructive to consider how much of the warmist spin is concerned with straw men.

They endlessly repeat phrases such as "climate change is real", "there has been a clear warming trend over the past century", "97% of climate scientists accept the greenhouse theory", "it is unequivocal that human activity contributes to global warming".

Hardly anybody disagrees with any of these bromides.

Why don't we ever see media focus on the questions which genuinely divide those who study climate science? "how much is caused by humans", "are net feedbacks negative", "what is the effect of clouds", "what are the statistical confidence levels of future projections" and "why has warming stopped"?

There will never be a debate until warmists are prepared to engage with clear-thinking questioners like Matt Ridley. Without a debate, the ranks of the faithful will continue to dwindle.

I guess the central issue around Ridley's argument is that you can accept most of the AGW theory and still come to the conclusion that it is a minor problem. (the "lukewarmer" position).

As Ridley says, it's like putting a tournique around your neck to stop a nosebleed.

Once you've got the majority of the population accepting that, then the political will goes away, we can all breathe again, and climate science can go back to being a real science.
